Building up in Maturity - from the Provincial Gathering of the Anglican Church in SEA (2007)

‘Building up in Maturity’ - A Communiqué of the Provincial Gathering in The Province of the Anglican Church in South East Asia, Kota Kinabalu,  Sabah, 5-8 February 2007

__________

We, over 300 participants, comprising bishops, clergy and lay leaders, gathered at All Saints’ Cathedral, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, for the inaugural Provincial Gathering, hereby declare that:

i. we are grateful for the common history in our beginnings, and acknowledge that though we had developed rather differently in our churchmanship, we serve the same Lord, with the same devotion and with the same desire to bring others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ;

ii. we commit ourselves to grow deeper in Christ, recognizing that only by being strongly rooted in a Christ-centred faith can we hold together actively and grow more extensively;

iii. we are thankful for the solid biblical foundation laid by the exemplary ministries of the bishops, clergy and lay-people who had served faithfully, diligently and sacrificially throughout our history;

iv. we are resolved as a Province, while remaining committed to love and grow our local churches and dioceses, to meet new challenges by being a unified body engaged in collective actions;

v. we are mindful of the many difficulties we face in the wider Anglican Communion, both from within and from without; and desire to play our part in ensuring the continual witness of the ‘one, holy, catholic and apostolic’ Church;

vi. we reaffirm our calling to be a ‘voice to the nation’, and we pray for wisdom and courage to address social issues, ills and injustices; while developing our broad spectrum of community services undertaken to uplift the poor and needy in fulfilling the Gospel imperative;

vii. we are committed to our role in the wider mission of the church; through PROSEAMS and other churches and mission agencies, to share the love of God in Jesus Christ.

Realizing our common heritage, life and witness, we sense God is bringing our hearts together, to offer ourselves in His service through effective networking and sharing of our resources.

To God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, be all honour and glory, now and forever. Amen.
