The idea of a gathering of the non-Western parts of the Communion for mutual consultation on their distinctive contextual mission challenges was a recommendation of the Brisbane 1986 Missions Conference. Subsequently, Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) organized this gathering and Global South first came together in the 1st South-South Encounter held in Limuru, Kenya in 1994. The 2nd South-South Encounter was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1997. The 3rd Encounter was held in Ein El Sukhna on 25-30 October 2005 with the theme “One, Holy Catholic & Apostolic Church: Being A Faithful Church For Such A Time As This.”
This website was set up after the 3rd Encounter to carry the materials from the event and to follow-up work as laid out in the communique, especially the Third Trumpet. It has since become both a news site and a theological forum for issues of concern to Global South Provinces. Apart from official releases, the views of contributors to this site (especially in the Theology & Views section) do not necessary reflect the views of the the Global South Primates Steering Committee.
The site is managed under the direction of the Global South Primates Steering Committee (GSPSC), currently comprising:
Chairman: Most Rev’d John Chew (Southeast Asia)
Vice Chairman: Most Revd Henry Orombi (Uganda)
General Secretary: Most Rev’d Mouneer Anis (Jerusalem and the Middle East)
Treasurer: Most Revd Nicholas Okoh (Nigeria)
Members:
Most Rev’d Stephen Thanh (Myanmar)
