ACN Council Ratifies Common Cause Structural Document

Delegates to the Network’s Annual Council voted unanimously to ratify the federating Articles of the Common Cause Partners, to clarify the relationship of Network affiliates to The Episcopal Church, and to restate the Network’s commitment to making space for different opinions about women in Holy Orders.

Describing the federating Articles, Bishop-elect John Guernsey said, they are “a step forward for Common Cause that allows the constituent partners to retain their identity and autonomy while forming a more coherent and accountable structure. None of the groups disappear and none of the groups stop their gospel mission… Yet we are forming a more coherent whole.”

The Articles create a leadership council, outline the purpose of the Common Cause partnership, and envision structures that will allow Common Cause Partners to work more closely together in communications, mission and education. Providing it meets each partner’s canonical requirements, the articles also envision Partners making arrangements for the orderly transfer of members between the parishes of different jurisdictions and allowing the clergy of Partners to “officiate transiently” in jurisdictions other than their own.

Delegates also unanimously approved an amendment to the bylaws of the Anglican Communion Network. Noting that many individual parishes and leaders in the Network are no longer part of The Episcopal Church, delegates voted to add the following statement: “Nothing in the charter or bylaws shall be interpreted as requiring submission to the constitution of The Episcopal Church by affiliates of this Network who are not themselves members of The Episcopal Church.

Finally, delegates voted unanimously to ask the Common Cause Partners to add an article to the Common Cause Partner’s Articles that acknowledges differences between Anglicans over women in Holy Orders and pledges that partners “shall recognize and honor the positions and practices on this issue of other members in the Common Cause Partnership.”

  4. Words used to have meaning, until Socialist managed to transformed the Classical meaning of a word into a new politically correct meaning to fit their agenda.

    For example, Liberal in a classical sence used to be conservative-now Socialist have managed to redefine Liberal as being non-conservative. We now call Liberals--socialist.

    Their next target was the word Marriage-look in any Dictionary and you will find the definition to be one man, one woman. They are working overtime to change the definition to any sequence imaginable.
    Watch for the New Dictionaries from the Socialist Elites that will have an entirely new definition. It will go something like this, Marriage-the union of two or more human beings, and at times, marriage to animals of choice.

Perhaps the righteous fundamentalists of the Diocese of Georgia should move into the modern world and offer workshops on the subject of Homan Sexuality - with experts from the sociological and psychological community meeting with serious theologians who are willing to open their eyes to the real world around them. Perhaps they are so far into the ‘Global South’, that they have forgotten their ‘True North’ and need to adjust their moral compass to the reality of the world that God actually created and not some dark world of their own imagination.

  10. Thankyou, Doctor Ephraim Radner, for your heroic stand in resigning from the ACN Network - in protest at the outrageous statement made by Bishop Robert Duncan, which effectively dismissed the authority of the Archbishop of Canterbury as titular Head of the world-wide Anglican Communion.

    No doubt, the inflamatory statements of many of the commentators on this web-site would also have alterted Dr Radner to the fact that the ACN organisation which he founded in good faith is no longer the advocate of good sense and theological propriety in the Anglican Church.

    The rebellious actions of people like Bishop Duncan have brought ACN into disrepute and can no longer be accounted helpful to the ongoing serious dialogue which is essential for the good health and survival of today’s Church,

    Furthermore the threats implicit in some of the emails I have received from some of your more regular correspondents are totally in conflict with the propriety expected of practising members of the Body of Christ, the Church. I can no longer seriously interact with such people.

    I understand why Common Cause Partners are asked not to argue over women in Holy Orders but I hope that this doesn’t mean that the important question will be tabled by the orthodox.

    I was a priest in ECUSA for almost 17 years. I set aside orders in March 2005, after being inhibited by Bishop Stacy Sauls. The inhibition turned out to be a good thing. It gave me 2+ years to step back and investigate the question more objectively. Now I’m convinced that ECUSA’s ordination of women to the priesthood was the first step in tearing down the hedge that protected the Church from the consecration of V. Gene Robinson. It is innovation and it effectively broke the back of catholic orders, thereby clearing the deck of objections to the homosexual agenda in TEC.
