Diocese of Recife Approves Affiliation to the Anglican Church of the Southern Cone

Press release

DIOCESE OF RECIFE APPROVES AFFILIATION TO THE ANGLICAN CHURCH OF THE SOUTHERN CONE

Delegates and observers from the 44 territorial and extra-territorial communities (parishes, church plant and missions points) which comprises the diocese (over 4.000 members) passed unanimously with a standing ovation the following motion: “In gratitude to God, and to our brothers and sisters in that Province, we deliberate to join, officially, the Church of the Southern Cone, as an extra-territorial diocese, subject to its Authority, Constitution and Canons, and hereby request its acceptance”. The house reflected favorable on the last two years in which the diocese has been under the supervision of Primate Gregory J. Venables.

In his message to Bishop Robinson Cavalcanti, the clergy and the people of the Diocese of Recife, the Primate of the Southern Cone commended the diocese for standing firm in the Gospel in the face of unfair treatment, declaring that “Our Synod resolved with great support to commission our house of bishops and diocesan council to find the language necessary to bring the diocese of Recife into formal relations with the Southern Cone”. In other words, from just a protection into one more normal provincial life. “Please be assured of our united support and prayers for you and particularly for my deep sense of privilege as your brother and Primate, affirmed Archbishop Venables.

The XXVII Synod of the Diocese of Recife voted canonical amendments consonant with the Constitution and Canons of the Southern Cone, concluded with a Eucharistic Service, with the ordination of three deacons. Bishop Peter Beckwith of the companion diocese of Springfield (TEC) preached and co-celebrated.

  1. This is a excellent move for the Diocese of Recife, especially after their Bishop made it clear that their conservative beliefs are not welcome in his diocese.

  2. So....!  Bishop Duncan with the CANA ordinations is not the only one stepping across the TEC line in the sand.  Praise God for faithful bishops such as Beckwith, Ackerman, Schofield, Iker, and Duncan.

Alice’s delight at schismatic activity in the Church of God is more dangerous than perhaps they are aware of, and will lead to problems between the various G.S. patrons in the sorting out of their sundry illicit jurisdictions.

Ah well! It was ever thus. There will always be those who find the liberation of the Gospel message to be frightening, rather than what the good Lord intended at the Incarnation, when the Word becmae flesh and dwelt among us.

In his inclusive church, the only ones that are included are the ones who agree. Recife has seen through the bamboozle as did Fresno.
Retaking the Church for Orthodoxy one diocese at a time.

  5. “And today, we remain as ignorant as ever about the historical roots of Christianity in Africa, Asia, China and India. When we discuss the 20th century growth of Christianity in the Third World, our tendency is to view it as the illegitimate offspring of Western imperialism, even though Christianity spread to the east and south into Africa long before it ever penetrated into the heartland of Western Europe and America.”

  6. I was particularly pleased that +Peter, Springfield, was in attendance. He is a godly Orthodox Anglican.

The extraterritorial Diocese concept is gaining traction with these efforts. Note that +Duncan and the CC have formed a “partnership” with a Moderator, not an alternative province with an archbishop. This posture will allow their rapid “extraterritorial” affiliation with another province in due time, following what +++Rowan so aptly styled a “sensible” path to take. I spent an hour with a committed Windsor Bishop this week and he has concluded the same. No new Province for North America, extraterritorial affiliations instead. I am counting 11 probable dioceses taking this direction in the next 12 months. That’s a “probable,” of course.

Does anyone notice that BeersKat Manor is suddenly quiet about San Juaquin? Could +++ABC have passed them a cautionary statement? I.E. “Do be still Kate, and you can still come to the Lambeth thingy.”

Pray for the New Anglican Reformation and be proud to be a part of it.

  7. I woul;d like Teddy to explain: Just what is an ‘extra-territorial’ diocese? Is this a new concept of prelatical jurisdiction cooked up by would-be subversives of the traditional Anglican polity? Has it been approved by the Primates?
