Two Press Releases About The Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA)

From ACNS

‘In response to a number of queries, and following consultation with The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Secretary General of the Anglican Communion has issued the following statement:

“The Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA) is, to my knowledge, a “mission” of the Church of Nigeria. It is not a branch of the Anglican Communion as such but an organsation which relates to a single province of the Anglican Communion. CANA has not petitioned the Anglican Consultative Council for any official status within the Communion’s structures, nor has the Archbishop of Canterbury indicated any support for its establishment.”’

From CANA

STATEMENT FROM THE CONVOCATION OF ANGLICANS IN NORTH AMERICA (CANA)

We have made it clear that CANA exists, at this time, as a constitutionally and canonically established expression of the Anglican Communion as a gracious initiative of the Church of Nigeria. Indeed, we have not sought a separate free standing existence.

The language of the announcement, however, seems to acknowledge such a move may be made in the future in the phrase ³CANA has not petitioned the Anglican Consultative Council for any official status within the Communion’s structures. We do not anticipate making any such an application apart from the growing coalition of orthodox Anglicans in North America who can no longer function within The Episcopal Church.

We understand that the need for a separate ecclesiastical structure of the Anglican Communion in the USA will be a topic that will be discussed by the Primates when they meet in Dar Es Salaam next February and we will await the result of their deliberations.

We recognize the complexity of the situation that confronts the Archbishop of Canterbury and continue to hold him and all of the faithful leaders of the Anglican Communion in our prayers.

    Comments & Responses

  1. It is particularly important that GlobalSouthAnglican makes the point that so many others are mistaking about this annoucnement:

the one thing it makes clear is that

Bishop Minns is a fully valid Anglican bishop

and - if the rest of the Nigerian bishopric choses to attend Lambeth, then he will certainly be right there along with them.

  2. I am certain that the Bishop of New Hampshire and the Presiding Bishop of TEC will be equally welcome. Given the fact that Christian charity is a good old fashion Biblical truth even in CANA and outside the imaginary ‘Church of the West’.

In Christ there is no Greek nor Jew but magically we now have Evangelical Anglicans and ‘them’. Isn’t that a wonderful expression of Christ with us at Christmas time.

  3. Maccabe,

apparently you can write, but it seems you cannot read.

As regards the Bishop of New Hampshire, he is only recognised as bishop in New Hampshire and New York. Nowhere else of any importance.

Robinson is NOT recognised as a Bishop or even a Priest in England - when he visited, he was NOT permitted to preach, nor even to give a pastoral blessing.  Even the superseded compromise of the Windsor Report made absolutely clear that Robinson would NEVER be invited to a Lambeth conference.

As for KJS and other ECUSA bishops, the Global South has made their position very clear: they will not attend Primate’s meetings or Lambeth conferences if anyone from ECUSA is invted either as participant or observer.

    It really is that simple.

After all, any gay-supporting ECUSA bishop to be so foolish as to visit Tanzania or Nigeria, they could well find themself imprisoned for five years!

  4. The Presiding Bishop and the Bishop of New Hamphire are consecrated Bishops of TEC. Who cares if they can’t bless people outside of the USA? The Lutheran Bishops of the Evangleical Lutheran Church of America recognize them as full Bishps. My father was Lutheran, so I take great comfort from our Lutheran friends who share full communion with TEC. Why worry about things we can never change? If People from other churches don’t like us then I just say peace be with you and will move on with my life. I certainly don’t care what Baptist or Church of Christ people think of my church and I live surrounded by them. Why on earth waste time wondering what people in the Global South like you think.

You should be ashamed of the imprisonment issue. It certainly shows that your moral code is still that of a barbarian at best. It is against the law for Americans to have more then one wife. Should we arrest every person that enters our country that has more then one wife? Some church and political leaders from Africa, Asia and the Middle East may find that to be a problem to travel in the Unitied States.
